I was born in Zimbabwe as a Catholic and went
to the Convent for my education. I later attended
the University of Zimbabwe and graduated with
a B Arts degree. Upon completion in 1988 I went
into teaching at a secondary school for a year and
then served as an administrator in the Public
Services for the next 10 years.
I joined my family to come and live in the UK in 2000 where I found myself supporting parents with childcare needs, initially as a volunteer. I then decided to make a career out of it and trained as a Montessori teacher graduating with a Diploma in Early Childhood Studies. Since 2011 I have been working as a Montessori teacher in nursery and primary schools. In 2016 I also studied psychology at postgraduate level at Colchester University to deepen my understanding of child development.
My passion for working with children continued in my church life as well. I worked with the United Methodist Church (Zimbabwe UK) as a Sunday school teacher (voluntary) at my local church where I used my teaching skills to impart bible knowledge to the children. I was then appointed leader of the Sunday school group where I continued to nurture their faith through bible stories, songs and activities. I was appointed chairperson of South Charge (which comprises of 4 local churches) to lead and organise the families and children to commit themselves more to God and the church something which I hope to continue in my current capacity as a Worker with Families and Children at Billericay Methodist Church.
I have a very supportive husband, Nick, and 2 two grown up children, girl and a boy, Rumbidzai (praise God) and Kudakwashe ( God’s will) respectively. They have since graduated and are leading their own lives.
I enjoy preaching the word, reading home magazines and going out with family or friends.Matilda Kawadza Jan.’19
