Advent 2021
Advent this year is rather different – this time we are preparing to celebrate the birth of Jesus in a much ‘greener’ way than before. This is not only in response to COP26 but also part of our overall church theme for this year of ‘Caring for God’s world’. We are recognising that Jesus, as ‘Saviour of the World’, comes to us not only to transform our individual relationship with God but also for the salvation of the world itself.
We have been writing new words to the traditional song ‘I’m dreaming of a white Christmas’ and will sing about our dreams for a green Christmas at our main carol services. We are encouraging our congregations to celebrate Christmas at home in a more sustainable and less wasteful way. Also look out for a knitted Christmas tree that will become a blanket for charitable use going forward. In all these ways, and many others, we hope to celebrate the season in a more authentic and relevant way.
